Montgomery, Texas is just minutes from beautiful Lake Conroe and is home to many lakefront and golf course residential communities. Lake Conroe is a 23,000-acre lake that boasts fantastic water sports. Native game fish include black bass, white bass, catfish, stripers, blue gill and crappie. In addition, the nearby Huntsville State Park features 2,083 acres, with camping, hiking, biking, boating, miniature golf, horseback riding, fishing and swimming and is just one of the local attractions for lovers of the outdoors.

The majestic Sam Houston National Forest creates the northern boundary of Lake Conroe. The Lone Star Hiking Trails, located in the Sam Houston National Forest, features 127 miles of overland hiking trails with campgrounds, boat launches and picnic areas. The forest is also a protected habitat for the endangered red cockaded woodpecker.

MAGNOLIA, TEXAS
With a modest beginning in the timber industry, the nearby community of Magnolia, has grown from its settler and sawmill beginnings to a sprawling center of commerce. Magnolia is located at the junction of Farm roads 1774 and 1488, situated 20 miles southwest of Conroe in southwestern Montgomery County. The town boasts a city limit one-mile-square radius of approximately 1,000 people. But the greater Magnolia area roughly spans 12 miles in all directions, encompassing a population of more than 65,000.

The Magnolia Independent School District celebrated its 2002-2003 school year in classification 5A, as the steady 7% to 10% growth remained constant. The school district stretches for 147 square miles and is ranked second in the state in growth, along with Katy ISD, behind Frisco ISD, which is located near the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.

In Montgomery County, rolling hills, pine trees, lakes and natural beauty have been combined with the talents of dozens of the country's top course designers and developers to produce what is truly a "golfer's paradise." With more than 207 holes here, the golfer can expect one of the most challenging concentrations of golf courses in the nation.

The Southern Empress is an authentic 250-passenger stern-wheel paddleboat available for cocktail parties, as well as dinner and sightseeing cruises on the lake. The Southern Empress leads the annual Fourth of July Boat Parade on Lake Conroe followed by recreational boats dressed in their patriotic colors.

Whether you want to browse for collectibles or do some serious high-powered shopping, you'll likely find it in the greater Montgomery area. Montgomery's Old West Fest, held in April, is a step back in time as cowboys herd Texas Longhorns through the town of Montgomery. A Cowboy Town sets the stage for true cowboy living in one of Texas' oldest towns with horse training, trick roping, jail breaks, encounters with Indians and even a duel. Also in April is the annual Montgomery Trek, which includes tours of historical homes and an arts and crafts fair. In December, Montgomery hosts the annual 12 days of Christmas. A lighted Christmas parade, candlelight tour of historic homes and the popular cookie walk are just a few of the features of this favorite event.

The Lone Star Convention & Expo Center is a brand new multi-events complex of Montgomery County. Situated on 128 acres of Piney Woods just north of Houston. This state-of-the-art facility is the area's center of attention for a wide variety of special events at affordable rates.

The Heritage Museum displays permanent exhibits on the history of the third oldest county in Texas. Exhibits feature Montgomery County's development as a major oil and lumber center, as well as Texas history.

Steeped in history, the city of Montgomery is the official birthplace of the Texas flag. The flag was designed by Dr. Charles B. Stewart in 1839 for the Republic of Texas. The flag and seal, which inspired the title Lone Star State, were later adopted by the State of Texas.
